1936 – An American author and playwright was born on the 15th day of May this year. During his teen years he wrote plays, although he trained as a chemist at Wagner College and spent six months working at Allied Chemical after graduation.


1965 – He wrote The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, his first play that went into production.


1968 – His most popular work is probably The Pigman, first published in this year.


1970 – The play ran off-Broadway this year.


1971 – And it plays on Broadway this year and it won the Pulitzer Prize for drama.


1972 – It was also made into a movie by 20th Century Fox.


1990 – The novel is broadly taught in American schools, and also made it on to the list of most frequently banned books in America, because of what some distasteful language.


2003 – He died of lung cancer on the 27th day of March this year.
