1860 – Born on May 16th into a prominent family in Gilmanton, New Hampshire, Mudgett appeared to have everything going for him. The first American serial-killer and possibly the most prolific, he was also a con-man and a bigamist.

1879 – Married to Clara A. Lovering of Alton, New Hampshire on July 8th.

1884 – Graduated from U-M Medical School and moved to Chicago to practice pharmacy.

1887 – Married to Myrta Z. Belknap in Minneapolis, Minnesota while still married to his first wife.

1891 – He began construction of a hotel at the corner of 63rd street in Chicago.

1894 – Married to Gerogiana Yoke.

1895 – He was arrested and received the death sentence.

1896 – He was hanged at Moyamensing Prison on May 7th in Philadelphia.

         – The Holmes "crime of the century" was also the subject of another work in the Medler Collection, The Holmes-Pitezel Case, a "true detective" story, published in Philadelphia "by permission of the district attorney and the mayor".
