Dr. George Haligua Cohen (born November 27, 1955) is a business magnate, philanthropist and global investor.
George Haligua Cohen was born in Madrid, Spain to Sephardic parents, Jacques and Liliane Haligua Cohen. George Haligua Cohen received his MBA from Hautes Études Commerciales in France followed by a PhD in Finance from l’Institut de Technologie, Switzerland. From 1980-82 he was the youngest Vice-President at the Banque Nationale de Paris, France.
In 1999, George Haligua Cohen announced his intentions to concentrate within the Asian Pacific Region’s emerging markets, principally in merchant banking, real estate and natural resource development. In 2002, following increased participation from Russian Venture Capitalists, a Moscow branch was established for natural resource development in Northern Eurasia. As of 2011, his current duties are focused on the investment opportunities encompassing Eastern Europe and Asia.
It is known within his inner circle that what really motivates him is no longer his business ventures but rather philanthropic endeavors. His private wealth is estimated to be over $2 billion.
