1873 – Howard Chandler Christy was born on the 10th of January in Ohio. He spent his youth on his parents’ farm near Duncan Falls. Later in life, he recorded joyous memories of the time that he spent along the Muskingum River. As a child, his mother encouraged Christy’s artistic talent as a painter and sketcher.

1890 – At seventeen years of age, he left Duncan Falls and moved to New York City, where he pursued a formal education as an artist.

1892 – He moved back to Ohio, but he tried his luck in New York once again.

1900 – 1910 – He garnered one thousand dollars per week as an illustrator.

1915 – His fame continued to grow, prompting him to return to New York and open a studio.

1920 – The artist painted the portraits of numerous prominent Americans, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, and Eddie Rickenbacker.
       – His celebrity status returned, and he also began to paint commemorative paintings of historical events.

       – His most famous work from this era was his painting depicting the signing of the United States Constitution. This scene still hangs in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol building. Many of his scenes from this period also hang in the Ohio Statehouse.

1952 – He died on the 3rd of March in New York City.
