1956 – At Melbourne, Campbell won the gold medal in Olympic decathlon.
1957 – He was a national champion in the high hurdles, he set a 120-yard high hurdles record of 13.4 and held the world indoor best of 7.0 for the 60-yard high hurdles.
1959 – Played in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns and for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League.
1989 – He was inducted in the Hall of Fame.
