1948 – Born Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna on the 16th of July in Panama City, Panama.
Finished degrees in political science and law at Panama’s Universidad Nacional.
Blades worked at the Bank of Panama as a lawyer.
1974 – He immigrated to the United States.
1978 – With Willie Colón, they recorded album "Siembra" which became the best-selling salsa record.
1980 – Blades tried to terminate his contract with Fania.
1982 – Acted in the film "The Last Fight" and also writing the title song as well.
1985 – Co-writer and star of the independent film "Crossover Dreams".
1986 – Won his first Grammy for Escenas.
1987 – He recorded the album Agua de Luna based on the short stories of Gabriel García Márquez.
1988 – Released the English language collaboration with rock artists Sting, Elvis Costello, and Lou Reed.
1994 – Run for Panamanian presidency but ended unsuccessful.
1997 – Blades headed the cast of singer/songwriter Paul Simon’s first Broadway musical, "The Capeman".
2003 – He played the role of a retired FBI agent in the film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico".
2004 – Appointed minister of tourism by Panamanian president Martín Torrijos.
2005 – Received the ASCAP Founders Award.
