1924 – Born on the 29th of February in Sydney, Australia. New Zealand lawyer and politician.
– He was educated at Auckland University, on the North Island of New Zealand.
1941 – Joined the army and rose to the rank of sergeant.
– Transferred to the naval volunteer reserve as a sub-lieutenant.
1948 – Earned law degree at Auckland University before setting up in private practice.
1965 – He became a queen’s counsel, a barrister appointed counsel to the Crown.
1969 – Served as Supreme Court judge.
1977-1978 – Chaired the Royal Commission on the Courts.
1980-1985 – Appointed Governor-General of New Zealand.
– Received two knighthoods, the Grand Cross and Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George from the Queen.
1986 – Became the Chairman Festival of the Arts.
1989 – President of the Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association and was president of the Sports Foundation twice.
1990 – Served as patron of the New Zealand Youth Choir.
2001 – David Beattie died on the 4th of February in Upper Hutt.
