1871 – Born in Aberdeen, Maryland. American educator and pacifist.

1895 – Entered the University of Leipzig in Germany.

         – He returned to Baltimore to complete his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins.

1909 – Was the director of the Jacob Tome Institute.

1922 – He became the second president of Carnegie Institute of Technology.

1935-1939 – He resigned from his position due to poor health and died 4 years after.
