1885 – Allen was born in Jamesport, Missouri on November 18, 1885.

1905 – Graduated from Missouri Independence High School.

1905-1909 – Attended University of Kansas where he started his coaching career. Became a coach for Baker University and Warrensburg Normal College.

1912-1919 – Became a coach for Warrensburg Normal College.

1919-1956 – Returned to University of Kansas to coach again the basketball team. Published his first book entitled My Basketball Bible in the year 1924. He was responsible for the addition of basketball to Olympics in the year 1936. He received the 1950 NABC National Coach of the Year award. He coached the United States Basketball Team at the 1952 Summer Olympics. He compiled a 771-233 record as a college basketball coach. He was chosen by Helms Foundation as "1952 Basketball Man of the Year".

1974 – Died on September 19, 1974.
