Nathan Silsbee is a serial entrepreneur, and is the owner of several businesses including Greenstone Media. Greenstone principally focuses on web design in Asheville, NC. Nathan’s also the owner of a coworking space called Base Camp AVL, and owner of a digital marketing company called MyTownUSA. As a child, Nathan loved exploring the many fields and forests of his parents’ farm in Madison County 20 minutes outside of Asheville NC. He would catch crayfish in the creek, build forts in the woods around his house, and loved playing sports. He played soccer until high school, then fell in love with whitewater kayaking and went on to become a sponsored whitewater athlete for several years. After a back injury slowed his kayaking, he redirected his attention and became passionate about learning digital media and building innovative media projects.
Nathan attended University of North Carolina Asheville for multimedia arts and sciences, with a focus on interactive design. He became proficient in many modern software platforms, and learned many skills including videography, 3D modeling, graphic design. He especially enjoyed web design and spent much of his time developing his skills in coding and building strong websites. After graduating on the deans list from UNCA he and his long time girlfriend Rachel Hollis decided to move out west to pursue a new life together and explore Colorado. They settled in Fort Collins, and Nathan went on to become an eCommerce and web specialist at F+W Media, a leading media and publishing company with various national publications and over 16 eCommerce stores. He continued to develop his skills as a front-end designer, developer and SEO specialist.
After 2 years, Nathan and Rachel were ready to return to North Carolina. They settled into Montford, Asheville with their dogs Waldo and Pippin. Soon after, Nathan founded Greenstone Media, and the company experienced exponential growth year after year. The company was founded in 2013, and as of 2017 employs over 15 team members, including designers, developers and marketing specialists. Greenstone also won the sky high growth award from the Asheville Chamber of Commerce for 2016. Greenstone also acquired another tech company, TopFloorStudio, in addition to merging with a mobile app start-up, MyTownUSA. The merger with MyTown has greatly improved Greenstone’s digital marketing capabilities and has proven to been an excellent partnership for both companies.
Nathan and Rachel got married in September of 2016 and bought a house on Kenilworth lake in the spring of 2017 where they currently reside. These days Nathan loves paddleboarding on the lake, playing with his dogs and drinking a cold beer with his lovely wife on their back deck. Nathan continues to grow his companies and employ dozens of individuals in the region for tech related jobs. In day to day operations he focuses his attention on creating cutting edge technology solutions that produce excellent results for the clients and businesses he’s associated with. He plans to have a significant cultural and social impact on the region utilizing his influence as a business leader.
