1819 – She was born on this year at the estate at South Farm, Arbury, near Nuneaton.
1836 – Her mother died and she returned home to act as housekeeper on this year, but she continued her education with a private tutor and advice from Maria Lewis.
1846 – She completed her first major literary work of David Strauss’ Life of Jesus on this year.
1851 – She met the philosopher and critic George Henry Lewes on this year.
1854 – She and George Henry Lewes had decided to live together.
1859 – Her first complete novel, published in this year, was Adam Bede and was an instant success, but it prompted an intense interest in who this new author was.

1876 – Her last novel “ Daniel Deronda” was published.
1880 – She was courted controversy once more on the 6th day of May of this year by marrying a man twenty years younger than herself, and again changing her name, this time to Mary Anne Cross.
1880 – She died on the 22nd day of December of this year because of kidney disease at the age of 61.
