Brazilian track and field athlete
1927 - Born on the 29th of September in São Paulo, in a poor family.
1947 - He began in the triple jump under the coaching of German Dietrich Gerner.
1948 - Da Silva broke the national record and taking a place in the Brazilian athletics team.
1952 - In Helsinki, he became the Olympic champion and world record holder.
1956 - Won gold medal in Olympic triple jump in Melbourn and set another world record.
1959 - Adhemar acted in the film Orfeu, by french director Marcel Camus.
2001 - Adhemar Ferreira da Silva died on 12th of January.
He is the only Brazilian to win two Olympic gold medals.
