1896 - Born on December 27
- One of Wiemar Germany’s leading dramatist.
- Is best known for his satirical play The Captain form Kopenick (1930; eng. Trans., 1932).
- Earlier plats, such as Der frohliche Weinberg (The Merry Vineyard, 1925), combined folk, expressionist, and realist elements.
1939 - Escape Nazi censorship, Zuckmayer fled Germany, and later works, including the Anti-Nazi play The Devil’s General (1946; eng. Trans., 1962) and his autobiography, a part of myself (1966; eng. Trans., 1970), were written in the United States.
- In addition to novels, poems, short stories, and essay, Zuckmayer also wrote the screenplay for the film Der blaue Engel (The Blue, Angel, 1930).
