1865 – The birth of an Audtrian-German chemist on the 1st day of April this year in Vienna. He was brought up by his mother after his father's early death in 1880.
1893 – He went back to Munich; he started as an assistant professor in Graz. During his work in Graz he accomplished his most notable research work, the work on the chemistry of colloids.
1925 – He received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on colloids.
1929 – He died only a few years after retirement on the 23rd of September in Göttingen.
