1967 – He received his PhD at the Stanford University, and then he became the founder and president of Systems Industries, Inc., a computer equipment manufacturer.
  
1983 – He represented California's 12th District in the United States House of Representatives for four years.
  
1986 - He ran as the Republican candidate for a seat in the United States Senate.
  
1987 – He became a partner of Brentwood Associates in California.
  
1996 – He was a candidate for vice-presidential nomination of Reform Party, as running mate of Dick Lamm.
