1908 – He was a Polish American born on the 6th day of September this year in Boston. He never received any formal art training, his gifts as a sculptor began to show at an early age.
1932 – His first marble sculpture of Judge Frederick Pickering Cabot was made.
1939 – He assisted Gutzon Borglum in the carving of the Mt. Rushmore Memorial in South Dakota's Black Hills, near Keystone. Also at the same year, his marble sculpture of Ignacy Jan Paderewski won first prize at the New York World’s Fair.
1944 – He volunteered for service in the United States Army and was wounded at Omaha Beach, in Normandy, France
1947 – He moved to the Black Hills, and began to search for a suitable mountain for his sculpture.
1948 – On the 3rd day of June, the first blast was made, and the memorial was dedicated to the Native American people.
1950 – He and Ruth Ross, who had become a volunteer at the monument, were married.
1982 – On the 20th day of October he died of a heart attack at the monument site. He was buried in a tomb at the base of the mountain where his wife took over the project.
