1944 – He was born in Riehen, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland. He became a Professor of Experimental Immunology at the University of Zurich.
1970 – He received his MD from the University of Basel.
1975 – He received his PhD from the Australian National University.
1995 – He won “The Albert Lasker Medical Research Award”.
1996 – He received Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of how the immune system recognizes virus-infected cells together with the Australian Peter Doherty. With this, he became the 24th Swiss Nobel Laureate.
