1932 – He was born on the 27th day of August this year; he comes from Tougan in Sourou Province in the western part of the country. He went to school in Mali and Saint-Louis, Senegal. Then he joined the French military and attended the military academy.
1960 – His a paratrooper at the age of 28, and he participated in both Indochina War as well as the Algerian War of Independence.
1961 – He switched into that country's army.
1974 – He became a foreign minister for two years and also held the positions of commander of the regiment in the capital Ouagadougou and director of the military intelligence agency.
1980 – He staged a coup against President Lamizana, who had been re-elected democratically, and took on the positions of head of state and government. He became the President of Upper Volta.
1982 – He was deposed in another coup d'etat. He was overthrown by Jean-Baptiste Ouédraogo.
1983 – He was also imprisoned on the 4th day of August that year.
1984 – He and Lamizana were put on trial for various crimes. He was indicted to 15 years in prison where he was converted from Islam to Christianity.
1985 – He was released from jail.
1995 – His conviction from 1984 was annulled on by the supreme court of Burkina Faso.
