Zapolya, John(also John Szapolyai)

1487 – He was born at the castle of Szepesvar

1505 - At the famous Rakos diet, he began his public career

1522 - Zapolya placed himself at the head of a confederation to depose the palatine and the other great officers of state, but the attempt failed.

1521 – The Fortress of Belgrade got captured.

1526 – He became the leader the Hungarian nobles. They are in opposition to the foreign pretender was Ferdinand of Habsburg. They declared that no foreign ruler seated as King of Hungary.

1527 - He was defeated by Ferdinand, and was crowned by John's adversaries. John retired to his stronghold in the Carpathians

1538 - Ferdinand became Zápolya's descendant. When he died, his son John II Sigismund Zápolya succeeded him as Hungarian King and Ottoman vassal.
