1902 - Born in Wahoo, Nebraska, USA
1917 - Joined the army and was designated with the Nebraska National Guard in France
1920 - Produced movie plots and sold his first story to William Russell then to Irving Thalberg. He also worked for Mack Sennett and got to Warner Brothers writing stories for "Rin Tin Tin"
1924 - He wrote over 40 scripts under a number of pseudonyms
1931 - Head of production
1933 - He started Twentieth Century Pictures with Joseph M. Schenck which then became Twentieth Century Fox
1935 - Produced several films devoted to liberal causes and other controversial subjects:
- Grapes of Wrath; 1940
- Wilson; 1944
- Gentlemen’s Agreement; 1947
- Pinky; 1949
1956 - Left Fox to work as an independent producer in Europe 1962 - did the successful "The Longest Day"
1962 - He served as a president of Fox for 9 years.
1979 - Died of pneumonia in Palm Springs, California.
