1801- Born in Whitingham, Vt
-Was the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the first territorial governor of Utah.
-When he was 3 years old his father took the family to western New York, where Brigham grew up to be skilled carpenter and joiner.

-He read a copy of the Book of Mormon and 2 years later was baptized into the Mormon Church
-Young served as a missionary and as a member of the Church Council of Twelve Apostles. When Joseph smith was shot and killed by a mob in 1844, Young succeeded him as leader of the Church. He directed the Mormon exodus (1846) from the Midwest to the Great basin, where he chose the site for Salt Lake City.
-He established Salt Lake City as the center for the Church, Young sent colonizing parties throughout Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and California, where he helped found more than 350 cities and towns.
-Young wanted to establish a people who were economically self-sufficient, and, therefore, he organized a cooperative system during the 1870s called the United Order.
