-He received a law degree from Tokyo Imperial University and later served as ambassador to Italy (1930-32) and to Britain (1936-39).

-Yoshida tried to negotiate a surrender with the allies but was imprisoned for two months.

-He served as foreign minister under two prime minister and leader of the Liberal party.

-He became prime minister and held the post for most of the time until 1954.


-With backing of U.S. occupation forces, Prime Minister Yoshida assumed extraordinary powers to implement the
