1903 – left Massachusetts at 21 to study art with the famous illustrator Howard Pyle

1917 – father of Andrew Wyeth

– had a resolutely naturalistic style which brought him come up with narrative painting and illustrations and became famous for it

– his major work was the illustrations of 25 juvenile classics

– also made Tom Sawyer, Treasure Island, and Robinson Crusoe-Charles Scribner’s Sons

1945- died in an automobile accident with accomplishments of more than 3,000 illustrations, numerous vast murals, and a great many still life and landscape painting
