1919 - Emily Marie Bertelsen, born on the 11th of December in Marysvale, Piute County, Utah. She was one of the 500 stars nominated to become one of the 50 greatest American screen legends as part of the American Film Institute's 100 years.

1940 - She studied acting under Russian stage and screen luminary Maria Ouspenskaya, supporting herself as a telephone operator between performing assignments.

1947 - After several radio appearances and movie bits, she was moved up to feature-film roles in Song of the Thin Man.

1953 - She appeared in so many noirs and b-movies like Cat-Women of the Moon.

1956 - She is affectionately remembered by disciples of director Stanley Kubrick for her portrayal of Elisha Cook's cold-blooded, castrating wife in The Killing.

2000 - She died of undisclosed causes on the day before her 81st birthday, on the 10th of December.
