1750 - Born in Boston, Mass on the 20th of May.

1770 - He went to France as secretary to Benjamin Franklin.

1785 - He studied military science; returned to the United States and settled in Philadelphia.

1801 - He entered the United States Army as major of the Second Regiment of Artillerists and Engineers on the 16th of February.

1802 - He was the first Superintendent of the United States Military Academy.

1812 - He was promoted through the ranks to colonel, planned and built the inner forts for the defense of New York Harbor and resigned on the 21st of July 31, 1812

1815 - He was the author of several military and philosophical papers; elected to the Fourteenth Congress and served from th 4th of March.

         - Died in Philadelphia, Pa on the 16th of May.
