1856 - Kate Douglas Wiggin, born on the 28th of September in Philadelphia. She was an American children's author and educator.
1878 - She started the first free kindergarten in San Francisco in (the "Silver Street Free Kindergarten").
1880 - With her sister, she also established a training school for kindergarten teachers.
1887 - 1903 - She was also a writer of children's books, the best known being The Birds' Christmas Carol and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.
1923 - Died at Harrow, Middlesex, England on the 24th of August.
