1942 - Jack White, born this year. He was a veteran Rhode Island journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of President Richard Nixon's underpayment of income taxes.

1969 - He began his career at the Newport Daily News.

1970 - 1971 - His Pulitzer-winning scoop almost didn't happen. Working off a tip and tax documents, he learned that Nixon failed to pay a large portion of his income taxes.

1970 - Joined the Providence Journal-Evening Bulletin a year later.

1973 - In September, the union representing reporters at the newspaper voted to go on strike. He would later recall rolling the story out of his typewriter, folding it up and putting it in his wallet.

1979 - He made the transition to television, when he joined the investigative team at WBZ-TV in Boston.

1981 - 1984 - He worked as a reporter and columnist for the Cape Cod Times.

1985 - Joined WPRI-TV as chief investigative reporter.

2001 - He broke the news that former Providence, Rhode Island Mayor Vincent (Buddy) Cianci had been indicted on federal corruption charges.

2005 - Died unexpectedly at his home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts on the 12th of October.
