1880 - Born in April 15th in Prague. Czech-born psychologist, one of the founders, with Kurt Koffka and Wolfgang Köhler, of Gestalt psychology, which attempts to examine psychological phenomena as structural wholes, rather than breaking them down into components.

1904 - He studied at the universities of Prague, Berlin, and Würzburg (Ph.D.).

1910 - Wertheimer's discovery of the phi phenomenon (concerning the illusion of motion) gave rise to the influential school of Gestalt psychology.

1921 - Helped found journal "Psychologische Forschung".

1933 - Wertheimer came to the United States, shortly before the Nazis seized power in Germany.

         - He immediately joined the graduate faculty of the New School for Social Research.

1943 - Died on October 12th in New York.

1945 - His book was posthumously published, called Productive Thinking.
