1906 - Born 18th of November in New York City.
1927 - He received the degree of Bachelor of Science from Washington Square College of New York University.
1932 - Graduated work in zoology at Columbia University, from which he received the Ph.D.

1934 - He came back to Harvard University as a tutor in Biochemical Sciences.
1935 - Became Faculty Instructor of Biochemical Sciences in Harvard University.

1966 - He was awarded the Ives Medal of the Optical Society of America.
1967 - He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries in vision.
- He was awarded the T. Duckett Jones Memorial Award from the Whitney Foundation.
1980 - Served as part of f Ramsey's Clark delegation to Iran during the Iran hostage crisis.
