Vitale, Dick
1939 – He was born on June 9 of this year in Passaic, New Jersey.
1963 – He took his first job as a coach at Mark Twain Elementary School in Garfield, New Jersey.
1973 – Then he then served as an assistant coach before being hired by the University of Detroit to become its head coach.
1977 – He took the team to the NCAA tournament in this year. After the 1977 season, Vitale was named the university's athletic director.
1978 - He then coached the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association for the 1978-79 seasons, leading them to a 30-52 record.
1979 – He joined the then-fledgling network ESPN until another coaching job became available. He called the first college basketball game in the network's history on the 5th day of December this year.
2004 – He was a finalist for election to the Basketball Hall of Fame this year.
2005 – He was left out.
2006 – He signed a contract extension through the 2012-2013 college basketball years.
