1485 – Giovanni da Verrazzano was born in at Val di Greve, near Florence, Italy. He came from a good Italian family and was a well educated Renaissance man.
1522 – He was captured a Spanish treasure ship sent from Mexico, by Hernando Cortes, to King Charles V of Spain. The value of gold on the treasure ship was valued at nearly two million dollars.
1524 – In January, he was commissioned by Francis I to command a voyage of discovery to the New World.
1527 – He was apparently captured by his old enemy – the Spanish.
– He was reportedly executed at Puerto del Pico, Spain in November, 1528 for Piracy.
