1960 - Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg, born on the 18th of October in Sint-Agatha Berchem, Belgium. He is a Belgian-born action movie actor who's most known for martial arts films. His Belgian background gave rise to the nickname "Muscles from Brussels".

1985 - His first major role came, when he played Ivan Krushensky in No Retreat, No Surrender.

1988 - His appearance in Bloodsport earned him a nomination as Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival.

1989 - 1995 - Notable movies include Kickboxer, Double Impact, Universal Soldier, Nowhere to Run, Hard Target, Sudden Death.

1992 - 1994 - Notable films include Universal Soldier, Hard Target, and Timecop. In most of his movies, he plays a prize fighter, policeman, or soldier.

1998  - He and actor Chuck Zito engaged in a fistfight at a New York city bar. He began to take off his glasses and stand up when Zito (fearing Van Damme's powerful kicks) started punching him as he was still getting off his chair.
