1949 – He was born on the 18th day of June this year in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
1967 – In the fall of this year, he went to the University of Michigan majoring sculpture.
1972 – He graduated and went to graduate school at the Rhode Island School of Design to continue his study of sculpture.
1975 - After earning his M.F.A. degree, he set up a sculpture studio in Providence, RI. He also married Lisa Morrison, whom he met at the University of Michigan four years earlier. They were blessed with two kids.
1977 – He first exhibited his sculpture in New York City at the Alan Stone Gallery.
1980 – He was awarded the Caldecott Honor Medal for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi.
Chris is also the winner of two Caldecott Medals, for Jumanji and The Polar Express, and was the recipient of the Boston Globe Horn Book Award for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi.
1982 – He won the National Book Award for Jumanji.
1996 – It was made into a popular feature film.
