1945-1953 - The 33rd president of US.

 

1945 - Ordered atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

 

1947 - Promulgated Truman Doctrine.

 

1947 - Vetoed Taft-Hartley Act  (nevertheless passed over Truman's veto).

 

1948 - 1952 - Approved Marshall Plan to aid postwar Europe.

 

1949 - Initiated Fair Deal domestic policy, including Housing Act.

 

Won UN mandate to expel North Korean troops from South Korea (Start of Korean War).

 

1950 - Survived assassination attempt by two Puerto Rican nationalists.

 

1951 - Relieved Douglas MacArthur of command of US-led UN force in Korea.

 

1952 - Ordered federal seizure of steel mills, to prevent national steel strike during Korean War (seizure negated by Supreme Court).
