1910 - He was born in Ferrol on the 13th of June.
- He received his first education there, subsequently attending the universities of Santiago de Compostela and Oviedo.
1939 - Torrente Ballester always promoted relatively leftist ideas, when he returned to Santiago to take up a university post, he increasingly distanced himself from the party.
1943 - His first novel, Javier Mariño
1960 - He had a number of problems with government censors.
1962 - He joined in protests in favour of striking Asturian miners.
1966 - He left Spain for a post at the State University of New York at Albany.
1975 - He was elected member of the Real Academia Española.
1985 -He was awarded the premier Spanish literary prize, the Cervantes Prize.
1999 - Died on the 27th of January.
