1380 - Thomas a Kempis, born in Kempen, Germany. He was a Renaissance Roman Catholic monk and author of Imitation of Christ, one of the best known Christian books on devotion.

1392 - Reached Deventer when he was barely twelve years old, was taught by a dame the beginnings of his learning, and in a few months to his great joy entered the classes of Florentius Radewyn.

1395 - He was sent to the school at Deventer conducted by the Brethren of the Common Life.

1407 - He professed the vows.

1413 - Received priest's orders.

1425 - Became sub-prior.

1471 - Died on the 8th of August, being ninety-one years old.
