1896 - Born on August 15th in St. Petersburg, Russia. Soviet scientist, musician, and inventor of the theremin, the body-controlled instrument that bears his name, born in St. Petersburg.
1919 - The theremin was invented and became the first electronic musical instrument that had a career in the XX-century and it is still the only instrument which can be played without any mechanical touching.

1930 - He was kidnapped by Soviet agents, under direct orders by Stalin, and brought back to the Soviet Union, where he was forced to design electronic surveillance devices.
