1900 – Born on January 5th in Paris, France. French-born American painter who made a highly individual contribution to Surrealism.
1922 – Tanguy returned to Paris, where he lived a Bohemian life and searched for a vocation.
1923 – Inspired by a painting of Giorgio de Chirico that he saw in an art gallery made such a strong impression on him that he immediately took up painting.
1925 – Joined the Surrealists, and he subsequently participated in all the Surrealists’ major exhibitions.
1927 – Tanguy had found his own unique style of painting. His paintings depict groups of strange, unidentifiable objects that resemble marine invertebrates or sculpturesque rock formations.
1939-1948 – He visited the United States and settled there, becoming a United States citizen.
1955 – Died on January 15th in Waterbury, Connecticut.
