1926 - He became the youngest President of the International YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association).

1927 - He served as a Hamilton County Prosecutor in Ohio.

1940 - He served as Director of U.S. Community War Service at the Federal Security Agency.

1941 - He became Director of Economic Affairs at the State Department.

1947 - He served as the first layman President of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America.

1952 - He ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Ohio.

1983 - He died on the 24th of June.
