Sutherland, Peter Denis
1946 - Born on April 25th on Dublin, Ireland.
1969 - Peter Sutherland practiced at the Irish Bar.
- Educated at Gonzaga College, University College Dublin and at the Honorable Society of the King's Inns.
- Sutherland was a Tutor in Law at University College Dublin.
1981 - Was appointed Attorney General of Ireland by the government of Garret FitzGerald.
1984 - He served in this capacity until he was nominated by the Government of Ireland as a Commissioner of the European Communities.
1989 - He was Chairman of Allied Irish Banks.
1991 - Chairman of the Board of Governors of the European Institute of Public Administration (Maastricht).
1993 - He had previously served as Director General of GATT since July and was instrumental in concluding the Uruguay GATT Round Negotiations.
- He has published numerous articles and the book "Premier Janvier, ce qui va changer en Europe" (Paris).
1995 - He is also Chairman of Goldman Sachs International.
- The interim first director of World Trade Organization (WTO).
1999 - He was presented with the Robert Schuman Medal for his work on European Integration and the David Rockefeller Award of the Trilateral Commission. Mr. Sutherland was a Trilateral Commission author on "21st Century Strategies of the Trilateral Countries: In Concert or Conflict?".
2003 - Re-elected for a second term as European Chairman of the Trilateral Commission.
2006 - On January 23rd, Kofi Annan appointed Sutherland as the UN's Special Representative on Migration.
