1942 - Born on March 4th in Orangeburg, South Carolina. American administrator and lawyer.

1964 - Dean Speth graduated summa cum laude from Yale College and attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar earning a M.Litt. in economics.

1970-1977 - He was senior attorney wth the Natural Resources Defense Council, an organization he co-founded.

1981 - He was Professor of environmental and constitutional Law at Georgetown University.

1982 - He founded the World Resources Institute and served as its president.

1993-1999 - Dean Speth comes to Yale's environment school from the United Nations, where he served as Administrator of the Development Program (UNDP), the principal arm of the UN for the funding and coordination of technical assistance and development.

         - He holds an J.D. from Yale Law School, and recently received an honorary Doctor of laws degree from Clark University.

2003 - James Gustave Speth became the Dean of Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

2004 - He wrote the book, Red Sky at Morning.

         - Recipient of the prestigious Blue Planet Award.
