1926 - Born on the 26th of December in Seattle, WA.

1949 - Spellman was a graduate of Seattle University.

1953 - Graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center.

1980 - He was a Republican and his opponent in the election was then-State Senator Jim McDermott.

1981 - Governor of Washington.

1983 - In September, upon the untimely and unexpected death of U.S. Senator Henry M. Jackson, Governor Spellman used his authority to appoint former Republican governor Daniel J. Evans to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat.

         - At the general election in November, appointed Senator Daniel J. Evans defeated a vigorous challenge by Democratic Congressman Mike Lowry.

1984 - Spellman ran for a second term of office, facing voter anxiety about the weak economy.

         - In the November general election, voters decisively replaced Spellman with Gardner.

1985 - Leaving office in January, Governor Spellman returned to private law practice. Since then, he twice ran unsuccessfully for election as a judge in Washington's state appellate courts.

2006 - Governor Spellman was awarded the James R. Ellis Regional Leadership Award from The Municipal League of King County, on the 8th of June.
