1930 - Arlen Specter, born on the 12th of February in Wichita, Kansas, USA, to a Jewish family in Russell. He is a United States Senator from Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Republican Party.

1951 - 1953 - He studied at universities before and after serving in the United States Air Force.

1956 - He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania.

1956 - Graduated at Yale Law School.

       - He passed the Pennsylvania Bar.

1959 - 1964 - He soon became a prominent lawyer in Philadelphia and became active in politics, beginning his political life as a Democrat. He worked with the Warren Commission investigating the assassination of John F. Kennedy. As a chief counsel for the commission, he authored the controversial "single bullet theory".

1973 - He mounted an unsuccessful campaign for mayor of Philadelphia.

1976 - He was defeated in the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate by John Heinz.

1978 - Primary for Governor of Pennsylvania, losing to Dick Thornburgh.

1980 - He eventually became a Republican and scored an upset by winning a race for District Attorney in heavily Democratic Philadelphia running on an anti-corruption platform against the Democratic machine.

2005 - On the 16th of February, He announced that he had been diagnosed with an advanced form of Hodgkin's disease, a type of cancer. Despite the advanced form, He continued working during chemotherapy.

2006 - On the 9th of March, The USA Patriot Act Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 was signed into law.
