Sodano, Angelo
1927 - Born on the 23rd of November.
1950 - He was ordained a priest there on 23rd of September by Bishop Umberto Rossi.
1950 - He served as a parish priest doing pastoral work in the diocese of Asti and faculty member of its seminary.
1959 - He moved to Rome and entered the direct service of the Holy See.
1968 - Serving as a secretary of nunciatures in Latin America, and achieving the title of monsignor before becoming an official of the Curial Council for Public Affairs of the Church.
1977 - On the 30th of November, he was appointed a titular archbishop of Nova Caesaris and the apostolic nuncio to Chile.
1978 - He returned to Asti to be consecrated a bishop before taking up his post.
1988 - He returned to Rome as Secretary of the Council For Public Affairs of the Church.
1989 - He became the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State.
1990 - He became Pro-Secretary of State 1 December.
1991 - Full Secretary of State once he had been named a cardinal in the consistory on the 27th of June.
1994 - On the 10th of January, Pope John Paul II named him Cardinal Bishop of the suburbicarian see of Albano.
2002 - On the 30th of November, exactly twenty-five years after he was first appointed a bishop, he was elected vice-dean of the College of Cardinals in succession to Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who became Dean.
2002 - He turned 75, John Paul specifically invited him to stay on as Secretary of State, though this is the customary retirement age for heads of major Vatican departments
2006 - On the 22nd of June, Benedict XVI appointed Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone to replace Sodano as the Secretary of State.
