Smith, Samuel
1756 – He was born on the 27th day of December in Hempstead, New York. He joined the Queen's Rangers during the American Revolutionary War, surrendered and then moved to England where he rose to the rank of captain and was sent to Niagara.
1801 – He was promoted to the position of lieutenant-colonel of his regiment.
1813 – He was appointed to the Executive Council of Upper Canada and he sat on this council until 1825.
1817 – He was sworn in as Administrator of the province in the absence of Lieutenant Governor Francis Gore and served for a year.
1818 – He ordered a reformer Robert Gourlay arrest when he called an illegal assembly at York (now Toronto).
1820 – He acted again as Administrator in the absence of Lieutenant Governor Sir Peregrine Maitland for three months.
1826 – He died on the 20th day of October this year.
