1790 - Prepared for the ministry, and was pastor in various Baptist congregations in Virginia and Ohio.
1799 - A member of the Northwest Territorial legislature.
- A delegate to Ohio state constitutional convention from Hamilton County.
1803-1808 - Upon the admission of Ohio as a State into the Union was elected as a Democratic Republican to the United States Senate.
- Indicted in Richmond, Virginia, on charges of participating in treasonous schemes with Aaron Burr; the charges were dropped after Burr was acquitted.
1824 - He died in St. Francisville, Louisiana on July 30th.
