1830 – He was born this year in a thatched house in Kilmarnock, in the Scottish Lowlands south-west of Glasgow.
1854 – He was one of the leading representatives of what was called the “Spasmodic” School, now fallen into oblivion.
1857 – He also published City Poems this year.
1861 – He also published a Northumbrian epic poem titled Edwin of Deira.
1863 – He turned his attention to prose, and published Dreamthorp: Essays written in the Country.
1865 – He also wrote “A Summer in Skye” this year.
1866 – His last work “Alfred Hagart’s Household” which ran first through Good Words.
1867 – He died in Wardie, near Edinburgh this year.
