1933 - Born on the 21st of  February in Tryon, North Carolina. A protest singer; a jazz singer; a pianist; an arranger and a composer, Nina Simone is a great artist who defies easy classification.

1943 - Eunice made so much progress that, when she was 10, she gave her first piano recital at the town library.

1950 - With the financial help of some local supporters, Eunice left North Carolina to continue her musical education at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, the same school that Miles Davis attended.

1957 - She was given a recording session with Bethlehem Records.

1958 - Married her first husband, Donald Ross.

         - Simone's first album Jazz as played in an Exclusive Side Street Club (11 tracks), was published and by then also know as Little Girl Blue, was a great success, first in Philadelphia and New York and then in the whole US.

1959 - Simone signed a collaboration with Colpix (Columbia Pictures Records).

1960 - She and Ross were divorced.

1961 - She married her second husband, Andrew Stroud, a New York detective.

         - She recorded the traditional song "The House of the Rising Sun".

1962 - Gave birth to a daughter, Daughter Lisa Celeste (Lisa Stroud), a Broadway actress, star of the Broadway musical "Elton John's Aida".

1964 - Nina Simone began her association with Philips, a Mercury subsidiary. This collaboration lasted for three years during which Nina recorded seven albums.

1966 - Nina switches to RCA a deal negotiated by her husband who acts as her manager and to whom some compositions are credited.

1971 - She filed for a divorce with Andrew.

1978 - Nina was arrested, and soon released, for withholding taxes in protest at her government's undeclared war in Vietnam.

1991 - Published her autobiography, "I Put A Spell on You".

2003 - Died on April 21st in Carry-le-Rouet, France due to cancer.
