1945 - Carly Elisabeth Simon, born on the 25th of June in New York City. She is an Academy Award, Golden Globe and two-time Grammy Award winning American musician who emerged as one of the leading lights.

 

1963 - She and Lucy formed the folk duo The Simon Sisters and eventually landed a contract with Kapp Records.

 

1968 - She worked briefly as the lead singer for Elephant's Memory, a band that subsequently earned their fame as backing for John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

 

1970 - Signed a contract with Elektra finally put her solo career back on track.

 

1971 - Wrote "Anticipation" about love interest Cat Stevens.

 

1972 - She won the Grammy for Best New Artist.

 

1973 - Her song "You're So Vain", was a number one pop hit.

 

1980 - A switch to Warner Brothers was made in after her final release on Elektra.

 

1987 - Another song (Let The River Run) written for another Mike Nichols feature Working Girl, provided perhaps the greatest accomplishment of her career: earning her an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a Grammy award for a single song.

 

1994 - Wrote 'Like a River' for her mother and 'Touched by the Sun' for Jackie. Both songs appear on her 'Letter's Never Sent' album.

 

1997 - She was diagnosed with breast cancer in October.

 

2003 - She held an auction for a charity on Martha's Vineyard where she offered to tell the high bidder who the song "You're So Vain" is about. The winning bidder was Dick Ebersol, the president of NBC Sports, who paid $50,000.

 

2005 - In support of her latest album, "Moonlight Serenade", she has said she will be making public appearances, in direct defiance of her long-standing stage fright, about which she now says she "no longer has time for that negativity".
