1945 – He was born on the 29th day of January this year in Detroit, Michigan. He did modeling work and attended the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship; he majored in business administration, however a drama coach suggested he try acting. He then studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. He also served in the California National Guard.

 

1970 – He married to model Jacqueline Ray from this year until 1982 from which he adopted her son, Kevin, from a previous marriage. He also starred in “The Movie Murderer” this year.

 

1980 - Tom Selleck played the role of Thomas Magnum in this year, after six failed TV pilots. The show would go on for 8 seasons and 162 episodes until 1988.

 

1982 - He won Male Star of the year at the Golden Apple Awards.

 

1984 – He won Favorite Male TV Performer at the People Choice's Award.

 

1986 – He received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in this year.

 

1990 – He is a member of the National Rifle Association. On May 20 of this year, he sparred with Rosie O'Donnell on The Rosie O'Donnell Show on the issue of gun control and an ad in which he appeared which supported the NRA.

 

1998 – He was chosen by People Magazine as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.

 

2000 – He received an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine University. He was chosen because of his outstanding character and ethic.
